Tips on Tips

I don't tip when I order take-out food. (To be clear, I am not talking about delivery. I am talking about calling in a food order and going to pick it up myself.)

Does that make me a cheap bastard?

And, more importantly, does that mean that next time I call in a take-out order to the same place they are going to spit in my food?

I don't see why you should have to tip them for not having to watch you pace while your food cooks.

i agree that if you go and pick up food, you shouldn't have to tip.

you've spurred a bit of self reflection in me, and now i'm worrying. i have two places where i regularly order food. one place i order italian food and pizza, the other chinese. i often (although not always) tip the italian people $1 and i have a nice, friendly relationship with the people and they know me by name. on the other hand i have never that i can remember tipped at the chinese place. does this make me a racist? or since i'm italian myself can i get out of that charge of racism on a technicality...?

No tipping on carry-out.
