Pink October '08 (#1)

"The special pink hair extension graft will help you share your unifying bond with women who have been touched by the ill-effects of breast cancer." ~Pink Hair for Hope press release

That quote almost makes me gag but, still, the idea is novel -- Donate at least 10 bucks to the National Breast Cancer Foundation and a snazzy pink hair extension is yours, free for nothing, courtesy of the SO.CAP.USA and participating salons.

Having never tried hair extensions I have no idea how much they cost, but I've paid way more than $10 for a few red highlights so it sounds like a deal. And kudos to SO.CAP.USA because they're not trying to sell you something with the promise of giving a teeny portion of the proceeds to charity. 100% of the $10 you shell over goes to the designated organization. (Though, duh, they are hoping you'll like your pink extension so much that you'll decide to augment your hair style with a few others. I do believe the look pictured above was achieved with the help of many hair extensions.)

In a similar effort last year $371,000 was raised, according to SO.CAP.USA.

Numerous products mysteriously turn pink every year around this time. Might have something to do with raising money for research and other worthy causes related to October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Or it might have something to do with companies looking for ways to get you to buy stuff you don't need. You'll need to read the fine print to determine which.

i have no sympathy for people with breast cancer. it's their fault for having breasts in the first place.

btw- at my blog snarkiness is always appreciated. all the more so when i'm being all dramatic and taking myself seriously.
